He then returned to his alma mater and was an assistant coach for the Minot Magicians for the 2002-03 season. During that year the Magicians had eight state placers and two state finalists.

When he graduated, Krebs held the state record for career wins with 179 and wins in a season at 40 (both records have since been broken). He still holds school records for career wins (179), career pins (75), takedowns in a season (175), technical falls in a season (8), technical falls career (26), team points in a season (273.5), and consecutive wins (90). Krebs was also a two-time letter winner in football and his senior year he was named captain and was an All Conference and 2nd Team All-State Linebacker.
At the conclusion of his senior year Josh Krebs was voted North Dakota’s male high school athlete of the year by the ND sportscasters and sportswriters. He was also inducted into the Minot High School Hall of Fame in October of 2007 along with his older brother Jesse.
